ORIGIN:

Zghihara is an authentic Romanian variety whose history begins many centuries before the phylloxera invasion. Its very name shows its belonging to the area of Moldavia, more precisely Huși because when we refer to this variety we can only say that it is zghihăț (zglobiu), it wins you over by its simplicity, but also by the refinement gained thanks to the care with which, at our Averești Estate, this variety is vinified. Zghiharei grapes are very resistant to frost, drought, manna, they ripen later, at the end of September, beginning of October, without a very high concentration of sugar, consequently the resulting wine rarely exceeds 12.5% alcohol by volume.”

MAKING PROGRESS:

Grapes were harvested in the morning until 10 o’clock, by hand with great care, at a sugar content of 195g/l., then destemmed without crushing. The grapes were cooled to a temperature of 10°C and then macerated in the press for 6 hours. The grapes were harvested by hand. The grapes were macerated at low temperatures, and the pressing was done cold. Fermentation of the must took place in stainless steel vessels at controlled temperatures.

TASTING:

Zghihară wine is a zghihăt (Playful) wine, where the high acidity blends very well with the full and refreshing taste in which we find fruity notes of green apple, gooseberries, but also vegetal traces of green bell pepper and fennel. The aftertaste is short to medium, mineral, with a citric and slightly bitter finish with traces of apricot kernels. Serve well chilled (8-10°C), it can be enjoyed at any time of the day, both as an aperitif and as an accompaniment to fish dishes, seafood, white meat, as well as dishes with soft-ripened cheeses.

Description

Averesti Diamond Zghihara de Averesti

Harvest: The grapes were carefully hand-harvested in the morning until 10 o’clock, with great care, at a sugar content of at least 195g/l. They were then destemmed without crushing. The grapes were cooled to a temperature of 10°C and then macerated in the press for 6-8 hours.

Vinification: After gravity settling for 24 hours, the must was fermented in 2000L vessels at 12°C for 18 days. To achieve the desired sugar content, controlled fermentation was stopped by cooling to 5°C.

Manifest: AVERESTI is the keyword that designates not just any Busuioaca but only the original one, which has enjoyed the recognition of specialists and enthusiasts for decades (some say even centuries). The Busuioaca grapes have found the best soil and climate conditions here at Averești to express themselves tastefully and aromatically in a unique way – often imitated but never equaled. Through the careful cultivation of several biotypes of Busuioaca, seductive wines are born at Averești, characterized by freshness, intense taste, and high-quality aromas that set the benchmark for this variety.

The Diamond 0.75L collection is dedicated to the Romanian varieties that have found their best expression in the Averești vineyard: Zghihara, Busuioaca de Bohotin (vinified dry and semi-sweet), and Fetească Neagră are the carefully vinified varieties, in a modern manner that reinterprets the old wines from Romanian varieties. Produced in a limited edition of 1500 bottles, the Diamond Magnum collection includes 2 wines made by dry and semi-dry vinification of the much-loved Busuioaca variety, in the unique manner of Averești Domain. With this collection, Averești Domain redefines the standard of freshness and elegance of the most aromatic and fragrant Romanian rosé variety.

We’ll do all our best so you can enjoy our Romanian wine collection.
