Description
Folklore Malanca Babeasca Neagra
Malanca – a very old Romanian tradition from Northern Moldavia and Bukovina that takes place on New Year’s Eve, consists of carolers that dress up a boy in brides’ clothes, called Malanca, and visit all the houses that have a virgin girl residing there. Led by the journeyman, the characters stage specific games, among them the Goat, the Deer, the Horse, the Ugly, and the Beautiful. Unmarried girls prepare specific cakes and come to greet carolers, dressing in festive clothes to impress the lads.
